How Mīzān checks a verse.
A plain explanation of what happens between pasting Arabic text and seeing a verdict, what the tool can and cannot say, and the text it compares against.
The four steps
Normalise the input
Diacritics (tashkīl), tatweel, and common spelling variants are stripped so that بِسْمِ and بسم compare as the same word. Alef, yā, and hamza forms are unified.
Match against the Uthmani text
The normalised input is compared, word-sequence and all, to the authentic Uthmani corpus. An exact match returns the surah, ayah, and the canonical spelling.
Restore spelling if needed
If the input matches only in simplified form, Mīzān shows the entered text beside the correct Uthmani form so the difference is visible word by word.
Analyse word by word
When no full match is found, each word is checked individually. Qur’anic words in the wrong sequence are distinguished from words that appear nowhere in the text, the signature of fabrication.
Uthmani vs simplified spelling
Arabic is written with and without diacritics. The Qur’an is canonically preserved in the Uthmani orthography, which records specific recitation rules through diacritics and special letter forms. Everyday writing and many online quotes use a simplified orthography; no diacritics, ordinary letters.
A verse can be authentic yet entered in simplified spelling. Mīzān flags this as “authentic (spelling restored)” rather than invalid, so a correct quote is not mistaken for a fabricated one.

What Mīzān is not
Mīzān is a verification aid, not a fatwa or a religious ruling. It compares text against a digitised corpus; it does not judge recitation, translation, meaning, or context. A “not found” result means the passage is not present in the checked text; it is not a statement about the user’s intent. For matters of faith or law, consult a qualified scholar.
The production validator loads a pre-indexed Tanzil Uthmani JSON (2.5 MB, 6,236 verses) on first visit and caches it for subsequent checks. All validation runs locally, no text leaves your device.
